In geometry, we did a
topology presentation that shows my ability to form collaborative
relationships. The assignment was to
introduce the class to topology as it applied to geometry. For this, we had to work in groups and use at
least one media to enhance our presentation.
As my partners and I discussed the best way to effectively convey our
topic, we chose to create a power point (which I did the technical work for) and
use interactive activities to supplement our teaching (for different learning
syles). We made sure to address each
question as they came up before moving on to the next idea so it would make
sense.
This project gave me experience
in collaborative teaching which I really enjoyed. I like that we involved our
classmates in the learning and provided examples in different sections: we gave
students play dough to work with throughout the presentation so they could
better grasp distortions of topological spaces; we had them work on the Bridges
of Koenigsberg problem both at their seats and on the board; and we provided
rubber bands for them to understand possible homeomorphisms in Figure 9.9. Had it been a full class, I would add a
summarizing activity to the lesson, but as this was only a portion of someone
else's three hour class, that was provided for us. Overall, this was a positive
learning experience that all of us worked together to create.
